Mrs. Garza was the assistant principal at APMA for 5 years before becoming the principal in 2019. Before coming to Albany Park Mrs. Garza was a technology instructional coach. She graduated from NIU with a bachelor's degree in Education and a master's degree in Educational Technology. In 2008, she earned a degree in School Administration. A lifelong Chicago resident, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter visiting parks and zoos, and gazing at the Chicago sky line.

Originally from Chile, Mrs. Azocar and her family moved to Washington DC, when she was in high school. She considers herself an English learner for life. This will be her 6th year at APMA and her 10th year as a school counselor. Mrs. Azocar received her undergraduate degree in Journalism from American University and attended George Washington University for her master’s degree in School Counseling.

Mrs. Lyons has been teaching art at Albany Park Multicultural Academy since 2006. She grew up in Northern Michigan and has a love for art and the outdoors. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and teaching credentials from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mrs. Lyons also has received her Master of Education from Concordia University and graduated with high honors.

Ms. Santillan is so excited to be a part of the APMA community as the Health and Physical Education teacher. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern Illinois University in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology. She never loved science until she started learning about the body and she hopes to help students recognize the value of physical activity and health-related skills for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction. She loves running the track at River Park and going on bike rides with her family and dogs; Reese and Bear. Check out her website here.

Originally from Rockford, Il, Mrs. Anderson attended Northeastern Illinois University, where she earned her BA in Special Education. She worked in the Humboldt Park neighborhood for the past four years and is excited to bring her experience to APMA. Mrs. Anderson loves getting to know students as individuals and finding approaches to teaching that work for everyone! In her free time, Mrs. Anderson loves to read and play the cello.

Mrs. Velazquez teaches 7th and 8th grade special education. She has taught in two other Chicago Public Schools, the past three years at APMA, and couldn’t be happier as she has lived in the Albany Park community (which she adores) for over 15 years. Mrs. Velazquez received her BA from DePaul University in Political Science and International Studies and her MA from Roosevelt University in Secondary Education.
